Do you have a question about the city government or people running for office that you are just itching to ask and get answered? Here is your chance!
MVNow staff is organizing a questionnaire for the City of Mount Vernon’s mayoral candidates: incumbent Brad Hyman and challenger Greg Ostertag, both local businessmen. What do you know or want to know about them?
To submit your questions, use the Candidate Questions form linked here. We will review all submissions, and questions asked by multiple people will be prioritized. The top five or so questions will be sent to the candidates for their responses.
Please submit your questions by Friday, April 10, 2026, to have them considered. After reviewing submissions, we will forward the top questions to the candidates and publish their responses on the MVNow website before early voting begins, which runs April 20-28 on weekdays.
“We hope to have a good response from the general public as well as clear and insightful answers from our two candidates,” said Lillie Bush-Reves, MVNow board member. “We hope to do the same for our Pct. 1 Commissioner and Republican Countywide Chairman runoff races, which will take place later in May.”
Meanwhile, if you are a city resident and are not yet registered to vote, the deadline to register and be eligible to vote in the city election is April 2. Registration is available at the Franklin County Elections office, located in the Franklin County Annex East, 502 E. Main St (Hwy. 67E), Mount Vernon, TX 75457.
Early voting ballot requests are already being accepted at the above address and will be mailed as soon as printed ballots are received. However, by-mail ballot requests must be received (not just postmarked) by the elections office no later than Monday, April 20.
Election Day for the City of Mount Vernon is Saturday, May 2.
