Over the last several weeks, and perhaps even longer, I have been thinking about how we can encourage more local photographers to submit their work for our weekly Photo of the Week feature. The idea is simple: create a place where local citizens can share the images they have captured and allow the community to enjoy, celebrate, and vote on them each week.
Submissions have slowed down a bit since we first introduced the concept, and I have been reconsidering what may be contributing to that. Almost every week, someone asks me about the Photo of the Week contest, which tells me there is still interest. I believe part of the challenge may simply be making it easier to find the weekly winner, see current submissions, and submit new photos.
This week, I am working to make the feature more established on the MVNow website. You will now find a permanent Photo of the Week page in the navigation bar, where you can view the latest winner, see submissions, vote, and submit a photo of your own.
This particular week may look a little different because we received fewer submissions, so please bear with us as we make this transition. Going forward, the voting link will be updated each week as photos come in, and voting will close on Friday evenings.
My encouragement to everyone reading this is simple: share the page with a local photographer. Whether they enjoy wildlife photography, nature, lake views, local events, or simply capturing everyday life around Franklin County, we would love to see their work. This is an opportunity to give local photographers a special place to share what they see through their lens with the wider community.
This week’s photo is included on the Photo of the Week page, along with a button to submit a photo for consideration. I hope we will begin seeing even more submissions in the weeks ahead. I may even share a few of my own photos along the way.
Let’s help spread the word and showcase the beauty of our community.
