Growing up in Deep South Texas, often referred to as “the Valley”, I always looked forward to a special segment on the local news: Photo of the Week. Each week, the community’s most striking images were showcased, highlighting the region's beauty, character, and everyday moments.
Now, we’d love to bring that same spirit to Mount Vernon through MVNow.
Our vision is simple: each week, we invite members of our community to submit their original photos for a chance to be featured on the MVNow website. Even better, we want this to be your feature—selected by your votes. By opening up the process to community voting, the Photo of the Week becomes a true reflection of what resonates most with the people who call this place home.
We know there are incredibly talented photographers all around us, professionals, hobbyists, and those just beginning their journey behind the lens. At MVNow, giving back to the community is at the heart of everything we do, and this is another way to celebrate the people and places that make Mount Vernon special. From hidden gems around town to familiar landmarks seen in a new light, we’re excited to showcase the moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
To keep things simple and fair, here are a few guidelines for submissions:
* Photos must be original work taken by the person submitting them.
* Images must be captured within Franklin County.
* Subject matter is open; we welcome creativity of all kinds.
This week marks our very first call for submissions, and we’d love your help spreading the word. Encourage the photographers in your life, whether seasoned professionals or aspiring creatives, to keep their cameras close and capture the beauty of our community, from downtown streets to the lake and beyond.
Use the form below to submit your photos for this week’s feature. Moving forward, a submission link will be available on the website each week.
Voting will take place on Fridays, with winners announced Sunday mornings in each MVNow thread.
We can’t wait to see Mount Vernon through your lens.
