After what seemed like a short winter season, the symphony of birds heard singing early in the morning, and the increasing population of birds in our area is a sure sign that Spring is on its way! According to bird experts, nesting season is already in full swing in Franklin County. Love is in the air as our feathered friends begin to pair up, build nests, and have baby birdies.

As illustrated in the above image, birds of all shapes and sizes nest in various places. Nests may be discovered in trees, on the ground, under eaves of buildings, or in tree cavities or nest boxes provided by bird enthusiasts.

Be on the lookout for nesting birds. Consider adding nest boxes to your area or hanging a few hummingbird feeders for the soon-to-arrive hummers. Resist the temptation to spray all those early “weeds” with herbicides and poison, and consider planting some native plants from our local nurseries. The birds will benefit from our love and care, and they might even sing a little louder.
