Do you have a question about county government or people running for the office of Franklin County Precinct 1 Commissioner or County Chairman for the Franklin County Republican Party? As pledged, here is your chance!

The MV Now staff are organizing a questionnaire for the four candidates who are in the runoff elections for these two local offices. Seeking election to an Unexpired term as County Commissioner, Precinct No. 1, are Joe Dan (Jody) Stanley and Ricky Steed. Seeking to serve as County Chair for the Republican Party are Mike Millender and Jack Brooks.

Republican voters countywide may vote in the selection of a County Chairman. However, only residents of Commissioner Pct. 1 may vote in the selection of the commissioner for that area of the county.

Questions for any of the four candidates may be submitted from any Franklin County resident or property owner, not just those living in Commissioner Pct. 1. Submit your questions to MVNow using the form on this link, Candidate Questions. Questions will be reviewed,, and those submitted multiple times by different people will move up the priority list. The top five or so questions will be submitted to our candidates for a response.

Be certain to submit your question(s) no later than Monday, May 4, 2026, to be considered. We will compile the top questions submitted and send them to the candidates for their responses by Wednesday of that week. Candidate responses will be published on the MVNow website on Sunday, May 17, just before the start of early voting by personal appearance, weekdays May 18-22.

“We hope to have a good response with questions from the general public as well as clear and insightful answers from our candidates,” said Lillie Bush-Reves, MVNow board member. “We did a similar Q&A with Mount Vernon’s candidates for mayor and received encouraging feedback from our readers for this segment on county candidates.

Meanwhile, if you are a county resident and are not yet registered to vote, tomorrow, April 27, is the deadline to register and be eligible to vote in either party’s runoff on May 26. Registration is available at the Franklin County Elections office, located in the Franklin County Annex East, 502 E. Main St (Hwy. 67E), Mount Vernon, TX 75457. Applications for by-mail ballots are received at that office and must be received (not just postmarked) no later than Friday, May 15.

These questions are aimed only at the Republican Party candidates for local county offices in this runoff election. There are four other runoff races on the Republican Ballot, and two on the Democratic ballot. There are no Democratic Party candidates for the two local offices. Other runoff races will be covered in a separate article in next Sunday’s MVNow Thread.
