There have been numerous reports of raccoon abnormalities and deaths. We are assuming this is caused by “canine distemper”. Canine distemper is a viral disease; it is very contagious and could affect raccoons, dogs, foxes, and skunks. Canine distemper does not affect people. There is no effective treatment for this disease, but vaccinations for your dogs are strongly encouraged. Vaccines are effective in preventing this disease.

Note: Canine distemper does not affect cats. If you have any questions, please contact your veterinarian.
