Looking Back at 2025

On November 5th, we had our PAWS Grand Opening!
Now, let’s look back to see what it took for us to get there.

PAWS board members purchased the former Reed Veterinary Clinic and began remodeling, remodeling, and remodeling. The vet center was built to handle large animals. We had to take cutting torches and cut out all of the large animal stalls to make room for the dog kennels, re-engineered the concrete flooring for proper water drainage, installed approximately 33 large dog kennels, remodel the cat room, replaced 100% of the ceiling tiles in the shelter, installed foam insulation in the large kennel area, installed a dedicated heat/air unit including ventilation in the newly renovated dog kennel area, redesigned all of the outdoor animal runs, repainted all of the walls inside the animal shelter and remodeled the bathroom. This was a major undertaking, and although we did not track the hours, it was a 14-month remodel project.

The unofficial opening of the shelter was March 1, 2025. From the date of the shelter's unofficial opening to year’s end, December 31st, we were fortunate enough to get a total of 274 animals spayed/neutered, vaccinated, ID-chipped, and adopted in just 10 months.

The PAWS Board would like to thank our county commissioners, Judge Lee, Sheriff Jones, city officials, jail trustees, and the many volunteers for their support!

We would like to especially thank 2 ladies who have been instrumental in getting the 274 animals adopted last year: Tina Jaggers, Shelter Administrator, and Jennifer Goodson, Mt Vernon Animal Control Officer.
Please come out to visit with our furry friends and us, they would love to see you!
