The Eighth-Grade A-Team from Mount Vernon Middle School finished its 2026 volleyball season undefeated, earning district champion status.

Eighth-Grade A-Team Coach Mickey Hargrove lauded the girls for their efforts. “This group of girls was a fun group to coach. They work so hard and want to be great. They are smart and so competitive.”

The team includes Ashtyn Rentfro, Kymber McAdoo, Briley Rogers, Harlow Bonacorsi, Hazel Kaltenbach, Bethany Blalock, Genesis Mendez, Litzy Temples, Caila Crawford, Aerabella Pascoe, and Dillon Scarbrough.

Their undefeated season made the school two-time District Champions. The team also won invitational tournament Championships at both the Mount Pleasant and Mount Vernon volleyball tournaments.

Coach Hargrove credits part of their success to the team members learning a more advanced offense early in the season. “They jumped right in and picked it (defensive change) up quickly, getting better and better every week.”

This season, they faced Prairie Land, Quitman, Lone Oak, Chisum, Rains, and Commerce.
