I have had the honor of interviewing people about their stories on my podcast and radio program Real Life Real People Radio that airs every Sunday morning on Star Country Radio 96.9 FM at 9:00am.
Since 2021, I have interviewed hundreds of people and have heard many inspirational stories of hope and healing.
This article will highlight one of my special guests from Mt. Vernon who has shared the story of his healing journey.
Jay Phillips was born and raised right here in Mt. Vernon. He has been blessed with a wonderful, loving, and supportive family. You can always find Jay talking to people because he has an outgoing personality and loves to make people laugh.
However, there was a time in his life when he was not able to talk, much less laugh. In March 2020 at age 58, he was working out at home as he often did. Suddenly, he felt what he described as a spew in the back of his head and he just melted to the floor on his knees. He told his wife who was there with him that he either broke something in his neck or he had a stroke. He worked at a ranch part-time, and thankfully, through his training at work, he knew exactly what to do and what not to do if he had suffered a stroke.
By the time Jay got to the hospital he had to get a wheelchair to get inside because he couldn't move.
Here is an excerpt from the interview:
“And this went on till about, three years. And I really struggled with my stroke to start with. I never questioned God. I was never angry, because I knew I did it to myself because of high blood pressure. I just didn't take care of myself like I should. Even though I worked out, I wasn't taking my medicine like I should. I checked my blood pressure to be normal. I thought I don't need this medicine today.”
Jay was hospitalized and in rehab for several years and faced many challenges including thoughts of ending his life. Despite the odds working against Jay, he has been able to make a miraculous recovery through the powerful work of God.
