Pepper Puryear, pastor of First Baptist Church, led Sunday morning’s service, recognizing Kids Under Construction (KUC) for 35 years of continuous service to the Mount Vernon community.
Pastor Pepper introduced Sandy Epps, director; Carrie Cooper, assistant director; and the daycare’s dedicated employees.
He explained that 35 years ago, First Baptist Church's leadership established Kids Under Construction as a ministry where parents could feel comfortable entrusting their children to a safe, nurturing environment while they worked.
At KUC, staff love and nurture children while preparing them for kindergarten and teaching them the Word of God. During the anniversary recognition, former KUC students were invited to stand and be recognized.
The preschool also nurtures families through special events held throughout the year. Among them is Baked from the Heart, when homemade cookies are sent home with parents along with information about the church.
Other traditions include the Annual Stew and Pumpkin Patch, which brings families together for an evening of fun and fellowship, as well as Muffins with Moms and Donuts with Dads at the beginning of a new school year.
Additionally, First Baptist Church hosted an evening out on Tuesday for KUC children and parents, along with KUC staff and board members, as part of the celebration of this special milestone. The event included bounce houses, Kona Ice, and hot dogs with all the trimmings.
KUC has 12 employees. Current enrollment is 65 students ranging from 6 weeks to 12 years. They are open from 6:30 AM-6 PM, Monday-Friday.
For 35 years, Kids Under Construction has remained a ministry devoted to children and families in the Mount Vernon community.
