Last week, I had the opportunity to interview Jerri and Mary Hearron about the work they are doing for the Texas Ramp Project and their need for volunteers to build wheelchair ramps for Franklin County residents. I hope you have had the chance to read that article, and if you are able to, register to help on the next ramp project.

A neat detail that most do not know is that I first came across a Texas Ramp Project ramp when an elderly resident called the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce for a handyman to fix her broken mailbox. I happened to be in Mount Pleasant that day and had the afternoon open to lend a helping hand.

I remember the first time I came to her house, I noticed the sturdy ramp that led up to her front porch. There’s a small plaque that reads “Texas Ramp Project”. Little did I know that months later, I would meet the team that put that ramp together for her.

Last week, I had the pleasure of coming out to a build here in Franklin County, where I wanted to capture the team hard at work and offer our citizens a glimpse of what that project looks like and how it comes together.

In the video below, I interviewed Mary Hearron as she and the crew helped build a ramp in Franklin County for an elderly resident. Let me tell you what: the team builds these efficiently, and the light rain was no hindrance to their progress.

I hope to bring more video content in the coming weeks, featuring different nonprofits in and around town showcasing the incredible work happening here!

If you know of such a nonprofit or would like to be featured, please reach out to me using our contact page here on our site. I would love to hear from you!
