Over the past few weeks, we have been fine-tuning the events calendar on MVNow.org with one simple goal: creating a central place where our community can easily see what is happening around town. From family-friendly gatherings and local fundraisers to organization meetings and community celebrations, we envision a calendar that serves as the go-to resource for anyone looking to see what’s happening in Mount Vernon this week.
We are happy to report that the calendar is now fully functional—and we are inviting local organizations to help us fill it.
The MVNow Community Calendar is designed to help promote events that bring our community together. Best of all, it is completely free to use. Each event listing allows organizations to include an image, all the event details, and even a link to Google Maps to help visitors find the location. Events can also include custom links, such as ticket pages or additional information on your organization’s website. Visitors can easily share the event with others or add it directly to their own personal calendars so they don’t miss it.
Our goal is to make the calendar both helpful and reliable for the community, so we do ask that submissions be geared toward community-wide events rather than personal gatherings such as private parties. Eligible events include public meetings, performances, fundraisers, fairs, festivals, and other activities open to the general public. Every event submission is personally reviewed before it goes live on the site to ensure the information is clear and useful for our readers.
At MVNow, we are continually working to improve our online presence and create tools that better serve Mount Vernon. But just as MVNow relies on our dedicated Citizen Journalists to share stories from across the community, the events calendar depends on local organizations sharing their upcoming events.
The MVNow board has already begun adding events, but we don’t want to miss yours.
To list your event, go to the calendar page, click “Submit Event,” and fill out the form.
