The field of Honor Flags is flying at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery thanks to the work of about 30 volunteers from 10 local civic-minded organizations who provided the labor to raise them Saturday morning.

The field will be in place through May 30, including Memorial Day weekend. If you know or have a family member who was a veteran resting at this site, it’s a great time to visit and honor them.

Organizations that were represented at the Saturday morning raising of the flags were:

The Warrior Spirit Project
American Legion Post 243
Sons of the American Legion Squadron 243
Legion Riders
Guardians of the Children - Sulphur River Chapter
Mount Vernon Fire Department
Mount Vernon Rotary Club
Mount Vernon High School Interact Club
Franklin County Lions Club
Gilmer Lions Club
